It’s so hard to know where to spend your marketing time with so many social media outlets, newsletters, blogs to post etc. But here are five big reasons that Instagram should be one of your top priorities.
- A picture is worth 1,000 words – as much as we hate to say it, attention spans are getting shorter. Visual content makes it easy to see exactly what your organization is doing and who you’re helping. Telling someone who you help isn’t nearly as powerful as them seeing you do it. A picture is also more likely to be seen vs. a lengthy post about all the good you’re doing.
- It makes you discoverable – you should always be looking to broaden your base of support. People who love your organization, want to donate, share it with their friends, volunteer for you etc. These people have to find you somehow and Instagram is a great way to do that. Tags enable people to search by location, interest etc. The more you tag – the more people will find you and love you.
- You can drive traffic to your website/donation page – Instagram is a great way to develop a following for your organization and then to drive that base to your website where they can sign up to volunteer, or donate or whatever call you action you’ve decided on. Create a following and then put a link in your bio – watch your followers go straight to your website!
- It has higher engagement than Facebook and Twitter – It’s hard to know what social media platforms to focus on, but one of the biggest pluses for Instagram is that it has a higher engagement rate than Facebook or Twitter. People are more likely to do something – ie. Like you photo, share it etc. on Instagram than either of the other two.
- It’s easy to curate content – Last but not least, Instagram doesn’t take a lot of time when it comes to curating content. Take a picture of the amazing work your doing, even if it’s mundane. People love to see behind the scenes. Take one picture a day and see how quickly your following grows!
